Duffy home
Renovation and extension
An original home set back on a corner block in the established Canberra suburb of Duffy, which was lost in its surroundings and lacked character. A family seized an opportunity to create something of their own. The brief was relatively simple but so important, to create a home that offers all family members their own space as well as a warm and comfortable feel that so many of us crave.
Vdara were contracted to complete all aspects of the renovation and extension, from demolition right through to floor coverings. We had the pleasure of bringing this house back to its bare bones, with a complete demolition inside and out.
Increasing the overall footprint, two extensions were added to the house. The initial extension added to the rear of the house was to provide the parents a ‘retreat’, creating space for an ensuite that feels more like a spa room, with a freestanding bath and a custom vanity.
The second extension to the front of the house was to give a separate, more formal lounge room adding a built-in fireplace with a beautiful natural stone surround. This hero of the extension provides a place for the family to come together and central point to spend time with friends and extended family.
The finishes in this home are well considered with the introduction of bamboo flooring for a practical choice yet modern appearance. The flooring, selected joinery, wall paint colour and natural materials in the fireplace combine to create a homely feel that was so important to the client.
Taking into consideration the already desirable and useable aspects of the positioning, the work also included a courtyard wall and paved area to take advantage of the sun.
We were thrilled to bring the Vdara touch to this project crafting a raked ceiling, creating the beautiful fireplace, square set finish throughout living areas and the attention to detail required on the bathroom tiles to lay the intricate pattern detail.
We were dedicated to completing this job within the time allowed, finishing two months prior to contracted completion date.
